Alexion Ranked No. 5 in Science Top Employer Survey

Alexion has been ranked No. 5 by Science magazine in its 2015 Top Employer Survey, which rates the 20 best places to work in the life sciences field. Alexion was recognized for its patient-centric culture, focus on transformative science, and comprehensive employee programs and benefits.

In an article showcasing the top 20 employers, published online and in the October 29 issue of Science, Martin Mackay, Ph.D., Alexion’s Executive Vice President, Global Head of Research and Development, described the Company’s singular focus on serving patients. “In this industry, everyone is trying to come up with important, good medicines, but at Alexion, we are extremely and genuinely patient-centric,” he said.

The article further noted that this patient-centricity is brought to life through town hall meetings where patients and their families share stories with employees about the challenges of living with a rare or ultra-rare disease.

Both Mackay and Clare Carmichael, Alexion’s Chief Human Resources Officer, discussed the exceptional dedication of Alexion colleagues, with Carmichael noting that the company has the most passionate and talented employees in our industry and that “[their] urgency to find treatments for life-threatening conditions translates into a company culture that is fast-paced, hardworking, and entrepreneurial in spirit.

Science commissions the survey annually to identify the top employers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. Survey respondents were asked to rate companies based upon 23 characteristics, which included financial strength, adaptation to change, and a research-driven environment. Nearly 6,000 respondents contributed to the 2015 survey.
